Former University of Texas and Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Derrick Johnson visited Blazier Elementary School in southeast Austin on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, to unveil a new Discovery Den library space. Johnson's Defend the Dream Foundation transforms libraries at Title I elementary schools into welcoming learning environments with new furniture, colorful graphics, and more than 1,000 new books.
Johnson greeted students before the unveiling ceremony. The foundation focuses on improving literacy and providing resources to underserved schools. Johnson, a former All-American at Texas and four-time Pro Bowl selection with the Chiefs, has been active in community initiatives since retiring from the NFL.
