Philippines' Alex Eala advanced to the quarter-finals of the Hong Kong Open after defeating Czech Republic's Tereza Valentova on Thursday. The 19-year-old wildcard entry secured a hard-fought victory, later admitting she "escaped a little bit" during the match.
Eala's win marks her deepest run at a WTA 250 event this season. The match, played on November 5, 2026, saw the Filipino player overcome a stern test from Valentova to book her place in the last eight.
"I escaped a little bit," Eala said in her post-match interview, acknowledging the difficulty of the contest. The victory continues her impressive form on the Asian swing.
