Harry Kane's Bayern Contract Extension Ends Premier League Return Hopes, Boosts England's Euro 2028 Chances

Harry Kane has signed a new contract with Bayern Munich that runs until 2029, securing the England captain's services through his mid-30s. The 33-year-old, who won the Ballon d'Or after scoring 73 goals in 65 games for Bayern and England during the 2025–26 season, has netted 102 goals in 102 Bundesliga appearances since joining from Tottenham for £86 million in August 2023, winning two league titles and three consecutive Golden Boot awards.

The extension effectively ends speculation about a possible return to the Premier League, leaving Alan Shearer's record of 260 goals in 441 matches out of reach. Kane scored 213 goals in 320 league games for Spurs, 47 short of Shearer's tally.

For England, the deal signals Kane's intention to target Euro 2028, to be hosted in the UK and Ireland, and potentially the 2030 World Cup in Morocco, Portugal, and Spain. Former England striker Chris Sutton believes Kane's football intelligence and all-round game will allow him to remain effective despite his age, comparing him to Teddy Sheringham who played into his 40s.

England manager Thomas Tuchel, who brought Kane to Bayern, will hope the striker's continued peak form can finally deliver international silverware. With no other English striker approaching Kane's class, his presence remains crucial for the national team's ambitions.
