The 2026-27 MLB offseason is underway with several teams actively addressing roster needs. The Philadelphia Phillies are searching for a left-handed setup man to complement their current bullpen, which includes Tanner Banks and Tim Mayza but lacks a high-leverage lefty. Manager Don Mattingly's late-inning options are currently all right-handers: Jonathan Bowlan, Caleb Kilian, Jhoan Duran, and Alex McFarlane. Among the top free-agent lefties, Adrian Morejon ranks No. 2, JoJo Romero No. 31, Alex Vesia No. 35, and Kris Bubic No. 45, while other available left-handers include Tim Hill, A.J. Minter, Sean Newcomb, Steven Okert, AJ Puk, and former Phillie Gregory Soto.
The New York Yankees, needing to rebuild their bullpen, have expressed interest in re-signing setup man Paul Blackburn. Blackburn posted a 1.59 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, 85 innings, 33 walks, and 69 strikeouts in his first full season as a reliever in 2026, ranking as the No. 33 free agent. The Yankees have tendered closer David Bednar a $23.15 million qualifying offer and appear likely to retain him, but still require upgrades in the setup role. New York has a recent pattern of developing relievers like Blackburn, who replaced Luke Weaver, only to see them depart in free agency.
The Miami Marlins are targeting starting pitching, bullpen help, and a corner bat this offseason. Sandy Alcantara and Eury Pérez are the only guaranteed rotation spots, with Max Meyer expected to return from a neck injury. At the corners, Gold Glove finalist Javier Sanoja can play third base but profiles as a super-utility player, while Owen Caissie, Griffin Conine, Heriberto Hernández, and Kyle Stowers (who moved to first base in 2026) provide outfield and first-base options.
