Lawyers for LIV Golf have confirmed the Saudi-backed league will cease operations after five years, according to a report by Mike Bachmann of NBC Sports. The circuit, which launched in 2022 as a rival to the PGA Tour, is set to close having spent approximately $5 billion.
The confirmation marks the end of a turbulent period in professional golf that saw the sport's top players divided between the established PGA Tour and the upstart league funded by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund. LIV Golf attracted major names with lucrative signing bonuses and a team-based format featuring 54-hole events without cuts.
Details regarding the winding-down process, player contracts, and potential integration with the PGA Tour — which agreed to a framework deal with the PIF in 2023 — were not immediately disclosed. The league's final season concluded in 2026.
