CONCACAF has confirmed a significant format change for the Gold Cup, the premier national team competition in North America, Central America, and the Caribbean. Starting with the 2027 edition, the tournament will feature two groups of eight teams each, expanding the group stage structure.
The announcement was made by the confederation on Thursday, November 5, 2026. The new format replaces the previous structure and aims to provide more competitive matches during the group phase while maintaining the tournament's regional significance.
Details regarding qualification pathways, knockout stage progression, and the total number of participating nations beyond the 16 teams in the group stage were not immediately disclosed. CONCACAF indicated that further operational details will be released ahead of the 2027 tournament.
