George Russell says he will take a "deep, deep look in the mirror" after a disappointing 2026 Formula 1 season that saw him finish fourth in the drivers' championship.
The Mercedes driver won three races compared to teammate Kimi Antonelli's nine, with Antonelli becoming the youngest champion in F1 history. Russell acknowledged luck had not been on his side but wants to understand why he lacked pace.
Season review
Russell revealed that he and his team analyzed the season and found only six trouble-free weekends out of 20 races. He said 14 weekends had issues, which is unusually high for a full campaign.
At the Mexico City Grand Prix, Russell suffered a power-unit electrical issue at the start, collided with Isack Hadjar, received a 10-second penalty, and finished sixth, dropping from second to fourth in the standings behind Antonelli, Max Verstappen, and Lewis Hamilton.
Russell admitted he skipped media duties after the race due to frustration but emphasized he remains professional and will use the experience to improve.
