Fourteen-year MLB veteran Sandy León has quietly entered free agency after his stint with the Atlanta Braves, according to reports on Wednesday.
The 35-year-old catcher appeared in a Braves uniform as recently as September 14, 2025, when he hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning against the Houston Astros at Truist Park in Atlanta, Georgia.
León, known for his defensive prowess behind the plate, has played for eight different organizations throughout his major league career that began in 2012. His most recent tenure with Atlanta added another chapter to a journey that has included stops with the Washington Nationals, Boston Red Sox, Cleveland Guardians, Miami Marlins, Minnesota Twins, Texas Rangers, and Chicago Cubs.
The Braves acquired León for his experience handling pitching staffs and framing ability, though his offensive production has declined in recent seasons. His departure opens a roster spot as Atlanta evaluates catching options for the upcoming season.
