Free agent pitcher Sonny Gray is projected to leave the Boston Red Sox and sign with a National League contender, according to recent predictions. The veteran right-hander, who joined Boston on a one-year deal, is expected to attract interest from multiple NL clubs seeking rotation depth for the 2027 season.
Gray, 36, posted a 4.12 ERA across 28 starts for the Red Sox in 2026, striking out 147 batters over 157 innings. His experience and durability make him an appealing mid-rotation option for teams targeting postseason contention.
No specific destination has been reported, though several NL clubs with playoff aspirations are known to be in the market for starting pitching. Gray's agent has not publicly commented on ongoing negotiations.
