McIlroy Hopes for Golf Reset After LIV 'False Economy'

Northern Irish professional golfer Rory McIlroy has expressed hope that golf is due for a reset following what he described as the "false economy" of the LIV Golf series. McIlroy, speaking ahead of The 154th Open Championship at Royal Birkdale in Southport, suggested the sport needs to move beyond the disruption caused by the Saudi-backed league.

The four-time major champion has been a vocal critic of LIV Golf since its inception, arguing that the circuit's financial model is unsustainable for the broader game. His latest comments come as professional golf continues to navigate the fallout from the split between the PGA Tour and the breakaway series.

File photo from a preview day at Royal Birkdale shows McIlroy in action during practice ahead of the championship. The 154th Open Championship is scheduled to take place at the historic Southport links course.
