Paulo Fonseca has departed Olympique Lyonnais to become the new head coach of Sporting CP, the Portuguese club announced on Wednesday. The French side criticized the timing of the move, describing it as an "unexpected" mid-season exit.
Fonseca, who joined Lyon in 2025, led the team in the UEFA Europa League this season, including a recent match against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. His departure comes as Lyon sit in the Ligue 1 table, while Sporting CP look to reinforce their push in the Primeira Liga.
