Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has acknowledged that the team's current defensive issues are "not sustainable," according to a report from Football Muse. The Dutch defender's comments come as the Reds look to address vulnerabilities at the back during the 2026-27 Premier League season.
Van Dijk, who has been a cornerstone of Liverpool's defense since joining in 2018, rarely criticizes the team publicly, making his assessment particularly notable. The club has conceded goals at a higher rate than in previous campaigns, putting pressure on manager Arne Slot to find solutions.
Liverpool's next fixtures will test whether the defensive unit can regroup and return to the solidity that has characterized the team's most successful recent periods.
