The first College Football Playoff rankings of the season have reshaped the national championship picture, with the SEC placing five teams in the top 11 while the Big Ten and Big 12 each have only two teams in playoff position.
Alabama, Kentucky and Texas occupy the fifth through seventh spots, highlighting the committee's strong regard for the SEC and widening the conference's path to the playoff.
Ohio State tumbled to 12th after its loss to USC, becoming the first team out of the playoff bracket and leaving the Buckeyes with no margin for error. Notre Dame sits 11th and must prove its worth against No. 1 Miami this Saturday.
The CFP rankings differ significantly from the AP Top 25, prompting a recalibration of national title futures odds at FanDuel Sportsbook.
National Championship Odds Movement
Georgia remains the favorite at +330, with its odds improving from +420 to +370 after beating Florida. The winner of the Miami-Notre Dame game is expected to see a significant odds jump next week. Notre Dame dropped from +470 to +550 despite a win at Navy, but a victory over the Hurricanes could propel the Irish back into contention with Georgia.
SEC teams that won last week saw their odds shorten considerably: LSU moved from +1000 to +750, Texas from +1400 to +1100, Alabama from +1100 to +1000, Ole Miss from +2000 to +1600, and Kentucky from +8000 to +6000.
Ohio State is the biggest loser, falling from +500 to +1400 after the USC loss and its drop out of the top 11. The Buckeyes' offensive struggles under Luke Fahey in his first start have led oddsmakers and the committee to lower expectations.
Indiana also slid from +850 to +1000 after another overtime escape, as confidence in Curt Cignetti's team wanes amid offensive issues.
Oddsmakers remain skeptical of undefeated surprise teams Utah and UCLA, which sit well outside the top tier despite being two of the three remaining unbeaten teams in college football.
