Max Verstappen and Isack Hadjar have characterized the Mexican Grand Prix as an "extreme" challenge, with Verstappen describing the track conditions as "slippery as hell." The Formula 1 drivers highlighted the unique difficulties posed by the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez circuit ahead of the 2026 race weekend.
The comments came during preview sessions on Friday, October 30, 2026, as teams prepared for the high-altitude event. Both drivers emphasized the combination of low grip levels and reduced downforce at altitude creates a particularly demanding environment for car control and tire management.
Verstappen, a multiple world champion, and Hadjar, competing for Racing Bulls, shared similar assessments of the circuit's treacherous nature. The Mexican Grand Prix has long been known for its slippery surface, exacerbated by the thin air at 2,200 meters above sea level which reduces aerodynamic grip.
