U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers intercepted a shipment containing 75 counterfeit Super Bowl rings arriving from China, the agency announced Friday. The seizure highlights ongoing efforts to combat the flow of fake sports memorabilia into the American market.
The counterfeit rings, which replicate the championship jewelry awarded to NFL title-winning teams, were discovered during a routine inspection. CBP did not specify which Super Bowl editions the fakes were modeled after or the intended destination of the shipment.
Counterfeit sports merchandise remains a significant enforcement priority for customs authorities, particularly around major events like the Super Bowl. Fake rings, jerseys, and other memorabilia not only infringe on intellectual property rights but also defraud consumers who may purchase them unknowingly.
The seized items will be destroyed, and CBP continues to investigate the source and distribution network behind the shipment.
