Xavier and Mercy high school cross country programs have leveraged exceptional team depth to establish new Southern Connecticut Conference records, positioning both squads as contenders for upcoming CIAC state championships.
Xavier's boys' team has built its success around a cohesive junior core featuring Quentin Koch, Holden Hines, James Perrault, Nolan O'Connor, and Alex Brown. The five runners have consistently packed together in races, a strategy that paid dividends at the 43rd Wickham Park XC Invitational where the team showcased its championship credentials.
Mercy's girls' program has similarly utilized depth across its roster to rewrite conference record books. Both programs now turn their attention to the CIAC postseason, where their pack-running approach will be tested against the state's elite competition.
