The Detroit Pistons opened their 2026-27 NBA campaign with a visit to Madison Square Garden on October 27, 2026, facing the New York Knicks in a game that highlighted the team's carryover from the previous season. Early in the first quarter, Knicks guard Jalen Brunson drew a foul from Pistons forward Paul Reed while Pistons guard Ausar Thompson positioned himself nearby, illustrating the defensive intensity Detroit brought to the floor.
The matchup served as an early indicator of whether the Pistons can build on the momentum they established last season. While the final result and detailed statistics were not immediately available, the presence of young core players like Thompson and the physical play from Reed suggest Detroit intends to maintain its competitive identity on the road against a perennial playoff contender.
