ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit served as the headline speaker at a Republican fundraiser, according to a Yahoo Sports report published Wednesday. The appearance contrasts with Herbstreit's previous public statements that he avoids political engagement.
Herbstreit, a prominent voice on ESPN's College GameDay program, has previously said "I don't really get into politics" and "I don't really pick sides." The fundraiser appearance raises questions about the consistency of those remarks.
The longtime broadcaster was photographed at the College GameDay stage outside Ayres Hall on the University of Tennessee campus in Knoxville on September 24, 2022, during the show's tenth visit to the city for a matchup between the No. 12 Volunteers and No. 22 Florida Gators.
