Burnley have named Fabio Celestini as their new head coach, four days after dismissing Nicky Hayen. The 50-year-old Swiss manager arrives after leading FC Basel to a domestic double in the 2024-25 season, winning both the Swiss Super League title and the Swiss Cup. He also secured the Russian Super Cup during his stint with CSKA Moscow, which ended by mutual agreement in May after 11 months.
The Clarets sit 22nd in the Championship with only one league win this season and have not won a home league match in over a year. Director of football Diego Lopez, appointed earlier this week to lead the managerial search, said Celestini brings the passion, experience and knowledge the club sought, highlighting his determination to join Burnley.
A former Switzerland international with 35 caps, Celestini began his coaching career at Italian side Terracina and has managed Lausanne, Lucerne, Lugano and Sion in Switzerland before his spells at Basel and CSKA Moscow. Contract details have not been disclosed.
