The New York Jets face another head coaching search after Aaron Glenn compiled a 5-19 record (.208 winning percentage) through his first 24 games. With the 2027 NFL coaching carousel approaching, several candidates have emerged as potential replacements.
Sean McDermott
Former Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott offers head-coaching experience and defensive acumen. He went 9-7 with a playoff appearance in 2017 with Tyrod Taylor at quarterback, and his defenses ranked second in EPA per play (-0.035) and 14th in success rate (43.9%) from 2020 to 2024.
Declan Doyle
Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Declan Doyle, 30, has play-calling experience. Through seven games, the Ravens offense ranks 12th in yards per drive (33.3) and points per drive (2.19), ninth in third-down conversion rate (41.7%), sixth in yards per play (5.9), fourth in rushing yards (141.7 per game), and fourth in team passer rating (108.0), even with Lamar Jackson missing three games.
Mike Tomlin
Former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin would bring a proven culture. The Jets project $96.827 million in cap space for 2027 and hold three first-round picks in the 2027 NFL Draft, providing roster flexibility alongside offensive talent like Breece Hall, Garrett Wilson, Omar Cooper Jr., Olu Fashanu, and Armand Membou, and defensive players David Bailey and T'Vondre Sweat.
Nate Scheelhaase
Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator Nate Scheelhaase, who turns 36 in November, was promoted by Sean McVay after impressing in a head-coaching interview with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He has risen from offensive assistant (2024) to pass game coordinator (2025) to offensive coordinator, though he lacks regular-season play-calling experience.
Grant Udinski
Jacksonville Jaguars offensive coordinator Grant Udinski has spent five years learning under Liam Coen and Kevin O'Connell. While he has not been a regular-season play-caller, his quarterback development background makes him a potential interview candidate.
