The German weightlifting federation has strongly criticized plans to award the 2030 World Weightlifting Championships to Russia, according to a report from German news agency DPA on October 29, 2026.
The governing body's opposition highlights ongoing tensions in international weightlifting governance. Russia has faced scrutiny in global sports due to historical doping violations, though the International Weightlifting Federation has not yet confirmed the 2030 host selection.
Germany's weightlifting organization argues that hosting the premier global event in Russia would undermine efforts to restore credibility to the sport following years of anti-doping controversies.
