Baltimore Orioles left-hander Keegan Akin saw his disappointing 2024 campaign come to a premature conclusion after undergoing elbow surgery, the club announced. The 29-year-old reliever had struggled throughout the season before the medical intervention ended his year.
Akin appeared in 45 games for Baltimore prior to the procedure, posting an ERA above 5.00 while serving primarily in middle-relief roles. The Orioles placed him on the 60-day injured list in late September, effectively shutting him down for the remainder of the season.
The surgery, performed to address persistent elbow discomfort, is expected to require a standard rehabilitation timeline of 12-14 months. Akin, who has spent his entire six-year major league career with Baltimore, will aim to return to form for the 2026 season.
Orioles manager Brandon Hyde acknowledged the setback, noting Akin's importance to the bullpen depth. The team's medical staff will monitor his progress closely throughout the offseason rehabilitation process.
