Maryland football has a new leader as coach Abdul-Rahim officially takes over the program with a clear mandate to shore up the team's defense. The appointment was announced Friday, October 30, 2026, marking a new chapter for the Terrapins.
Abdul-Rahim inherits a program that has struggled on the defensive side of the ball in recent seasons. His immediate priority, according to sources close to the program, will be implementing a more disciplined and aggressive defensive scheme to complement Maryland's offensive capabilities.
The coaching change comes as Maryland looks to improve its standing in a competitive conference landscape. Abdul-Rahim's defensive background is expected to bring a new identity to a unit that has often been the team's Achilles' heel.
