Forest Green Rovers have launched a £2 million lawsuit against Peterborough United alleging an illegal approach for their former manager Robbie Savage. The legal action was confirmed by Forest Green owner Dale Vince, who said the club had "begun a legal process for the tapping up of our manager, now ex-manager, Robbie Savage."
Disputed Approach
Savage left Forest Green on 2 October 2026 to take charge of League One side Peterborough United. Vince initially refused Peterborough permission to speak to the Welshman but later claimed he was forced to agree after Savage was approached directly. Peterborough United have denied making an illegal approach, with chairman Darren MacAnthony stating the appointment process was "100% correct and proper, following all the rules."
Savage's Career Path
Robbie Savage joined Forest Green Rovers in July 2025 after a successful spell at Macclesfield FC, where he led the phoenix club to promotion to the National League North with 109 goals and 109 points. At Forest Green he guided the team to the play-offs, losing to Boreham Wood, before departing with the club 13th in the table after 11 matches.
Since his appointment at Peterborough, Savage has recorded two wins, two draws and two losses in all competitions.
