Several Texas youth softball teams have announced their departure from a nationally ranked academy following allegations that the organization mishandled a sexual harassment complaint. A former coach accused the academy of failing to properly address her complaint against another coach, prompting multiple teams to leave the program in protest.
The exodus represents a significant blow to the elite softball academy, which had established a reputation for developing high-level youth talent. The former coach's allegations center on claims that organizational leadership did not take appropriate action after she reported harassment by a colleague.
Parents and coaches involved with the departing teams cited concerns about athlete safety and institutional accountability as primary reasons for their decision. The academy has not publicly responded to the specific allegations as of Thursday evening.
This development highlights ongoing challenges in youth sports governance regarding harassment policies and the protection of coaches and athletes. The departing teams are reportedly exploring alternative training options for the upcoming season.
