The Detroit Red Wings are searching for their next captain after the departure of their previous leader. Speculation centers on defenseman Moritz Seider, who has emerged as the leading candidate, while forward Alex DeBrincat also presents a strong case.
According to a report by Kevin Skiver of USA TODAY dated October 30, 2026, Seider's leadership qualities and on-ice performance have placed him at the forefront of discussions. DeBrincat, acquired in a trade, brings offensive prowess and experience that could also make him a viable choice.
The Red Wings have not announced a timeline for the decision, but the debate highlights the team's transition as they build around a young core.
