Tampa Bay Lightning star forward Nikita Kucherov has reportedly requested a trade from the organization, according to a report published Saturday. The three-time Stanley Cup champion allegedly informed his teammates of the request while traveling on the team plane on Friday.
Lightning general manager Julien BriseBois responded firmly to the speculation, stating the franchise has "no intention" of trading the elite winger. Kucherov, 33, remains under contract through the 2026-27 season with an annual cap hit of $9.5 million.
The development comes as a surprise given Kucherov's central role in Tampa Bay's recent dynasty, which includes championships in 2020, 2021, and 2023. He captured the Hart Trophy as league MVP in 2019 and the Art Ross Trophy as scoring leader in 2019 and 2024.
Neither Kucherov's agent nor the Lightning organization has issued an official statement beyond BriseBois's brief comment. The situation bears monitoring as the NHL season progresses toward the March trade deadline.
