Wales women's rugby team completed a historic double over Japan in the WXV Global Series, securing back-to-back Test victories for the first time in over two years. The first Test ended 17-0, while the second match saw Wales lead 29-5 before finishing with 13 players after yellow cards to replacements Keira Bevan and Hannah Dallavalle.
Gritty Defensive Stand
In the final 10 minutes in Kumagaya City, Wales repelled wave after wave of Japanese attacks to preserve a five-try win. Head coach Sean Lynn praised the squad's resilience: "The grit we showed to go down to 13 players and just hold them out at the end, that for me is just a sign of how far this squad has come."
Captain's Perspective
Co-captain Kate Williams highlighted the team's bravery with the ball and defensive effort, while acknowledging the need to improve discipline. "I'm really proud of the defensive effort, especially in that last 20 minutes with the two yellow cards," she said.
The series concluded with Wales winning three of four matches in the WXV Global Series. The players now return to their Premiership Women's Rugby and Celtic Challenge clubs before reassembling early next year for Six Nations preparations, where Wales will open the 2027 campaign at home against world champions England.
