The question of who truly favors a salary cap in professional sports remains a topic of debate across major leagues. Major League Baseball Commissioner Robert D. Manfred Jr. was photographed congratulating Atlanta Braves first-round draft pick Cam Caminiti at the 2024 MLB Draft held at Cowtown Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas, on July 14, 2024.
While the image captures a ceremonial moment at baseball's annual amateur draft, the broader discussion around salary caps continues to divide owners, players, and league officials across North American sports. MLB currently operates without a hard salary cap, relying instead on a competitive balance tax system.
