Germany's Alexander Zverev is set to become the world No. 1 in the ATP rankings for the first time in his career, with the new ranking to be officially confirmed on Monday following his title victory at the Vienna Open.
The 29-year-old secured the championship in Vienna, earning enough ranking points to overtake the current top-ranked player. Zverev's rise to the summit comes after a strong season that included a run to the semifinals of the Shanghai Masters in October.
The ATP is expected to release the updated rankings on Monday, making Zverev the 29th man to hold the No. 1 spot since the computerized rankings began in 1973.
