Ohio State head coach Ryan Day announced that freshman Luke Fahey will start in the Buckeyes' upcoming matchup against USC, according to a report from ClutchPoints.
The decision to entrust a first-year player with a starting role against a high-profile opponent signals Day's confidence in Fahey's development during the early part of the 2026 season. Specific details regarding Fahey's position and the game date were not disclosed in the initial report.
Ohio State, a perennial Big Ten contender, faces USC in what marks the Trojans' first season in the conference following their move from the Pac-12. The matchup represents one of the most anticipated cross-conference games on the college football calendar.
Day, who has led the Buckeyes since 2019, has a track record of developing quarterbacks and skill-position players, though the report did not specify which position Fahey will play.
