As the NFL season approaches its midpoint, the playoff picture is taking shape with nine teams already having less than a 10% chance of reaching the postseason, leaving 23 teams with realistic hopes. Week 8 features several high-stakes matchups that could significantly alter postseason probabilities, according to SportsLine projections.
Falcons at Buccaneers
Atlanta (39% playoff odds) travels to Tampa Bay (34%) in a pivotal NFC South clash. A Falcons win would raise their chances to 55%, while a loss drops them to 26%. For the Buccaneers, a victory lifts their odds to 46% compared to 19% with a defeat. Tampa Bay sits at 2-5 and cannot afford many more losses; a win would also give them a 2-0 division record and the head-to-head edge over Atlanta.
Browns at Steelers
Cleveland (36%) and Pittsburgh (70%) are both 5-2 and tied atop the AFC North, with the Browns holding the tiebreaker from an earlier head-to-head win. A Browns victory would push their playoff probability to 57% and give them a 3-0 division mark, while a Steelers win would raise their odds to 77% and erase Cleveland's tiebreaker advantage. Cleveland has not won a regular-season game in Pittsburgh since 2003.
Bears at Seahawks
Chicago (56%) faces Seattle (84%) on Monday night. A Bears win would boost their chances to 75%, while a loss would drop them to 48%. The Seahawks, already in a strong position, would move to 91% with a victory but fall to 69% with a defeat. Seattle is 4-3, while Chicago navigates a competitive NFC North where every team has a winning record.
Panthers at Packers
Carolina (26%) visits Green Bay (55%) on Thursday night. A Panthers win would raise their odds to 38% and move them to 4-3, maintaining their NFC South lead and sending the Packers to 4-4. A loss would drop Carolina to 21%. For Green Bay, a defeat would be more damaging than a win would be helpful, falling to 38% from 61% with a victory.
Ravens at Bills
Baltimore (44%) travels to Buffalo (96%) in a critical AFC matchup. The Ravens have lost two consecutive AFC North games and sit ninth in the conference. A win would lift their playoff chances to 57%, while a loss would drop them to 35%. The Bills, already near a lock at 96%, would move to 98% with a victory. Lamar Jackson's availability remains a key factor for Baltimore's margin for error.
