Everton manager David Moyes has insisted that Jack Grealish still has a future at the club despite the midfielder being left out of the team for two consecutive victories over Newcastle United due to a disciplinary issue.
Disciplinary Issue Keeps Grealish Out
The 31-year-old Manchester City loanee missed Thursday's 3-1 Carabao Cup win and Monday's 1-0 Premier League victory at St James' Park. The club initially cited a lack of fitness for the league match, but Moyes was evasive when pressed on the matter after the game.
"He's unavailable at the moment and we will make a decision with the club when we think that availability comes back," Moyes told reporters. When asked if the issue was fitness-related, he added: "All I'm giving out is that he is unavailable at the moment." He also declined to confirm whether the disciplinary matter had been resolved.
Moyes Leaves Door Open for Return
Despite the uncertainty, Moyes affirmed that there is a path back for Grealish. "Of course there is," he said when asked if the player could still feature for Everton. The Toffees' next fixture is at home to Coventry on Friday at 20:00 GMT, with Moyes unsure if Grealish will be available.
Grealish's Loan Situation
Grealish joined Everton on a season-long loan from Manchester City, where he became British football's first £100 million player in 2021. He played a key role in City's 2022-23 treble-winning campaign but has struggled for game time since. Last season he scored twice in 22 appearances during a loan spell cut short by injury, and this term he had made only six appearances before falling out of favour. His contract with City expires at the end of the season.
