Eight weeks into the 2026 NFL season, CBS Sports has released midseason grades for all 32 first-round rookies, evaluating production, injuries, expectations, and game tape. The assessment revisits original scouting reports to see which traits have translated and which concerns have followed players to the pros.

First-Round Standouts and Struggles

Linebackers Arvell Reese (Giants) and Sonny Styles (Commanders) both earned A+ grades, with Reese praised for his instincts and athleticism and Styles trusted with defensive play-calling responsibilities. Cornerback Mansoor Delane (Chiefs) and offensive tackle Spencer Fano (Browns) received A- marks, while wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. (Jets) posted an A- after back-to-back 100-yard games. On the other end, safety Caleb Downs (Cowboys) fell to C+ after allowing 20 completions on 24 targets for 230 yards and three touchdowns, edge rusher Rueben Bain Jr. (Buccaneers) sits at C following shoulder and groin injuries, and Keldric Faulk (Titans) earned a D+ after failing to convert his physical tools into consistent production.

Quarterbacks Fernando Mendoza (Raiders) and Ty Simpson (Rams) received incomplete grades due to minimal playing time behind veterans Kirk Cousins and Matthew Stafford, respectively. Several other first-rounders, including wide receiver Jordyn Tyson (Saints) and running back Jadarian Price (Seahawks), also earned incompletes because of injuries limiting their snaps.

Day 2 and Day 3 Gems

Beyond the first round, multiple later-round picks have already made significant impacts. Second-round wide receiver Denzel Boston (Browns) has 409 receiving yards and three touchdowns, linebacker Jacob Rodriguez (Dolphins) has become a defensive staple with his play recognition, and edge rusher Gabe Jacas (Patriots) has generated 21 pressures in seven games. Fourth-round defensive tackle Gracen Halton (49ers) and defensive back Keionte Scott (Buccaneers) both earned A- grades, while fifth-round linebacker Jaden Dugger (49ers) and fourth-round linebacker Kendal Daniels (Falcons) have secured starting roles and strong tackle numbers.

These early evaluations reflect trends through the first half of the season, but the grades remain fluid as rookies continue to develop and adjust to the NFL level.
