A new report suggests that Colorado Avalanche star Nathan MacKinnon could play an unexpected role in the ongoing contract standoff between Nikita Kucherov and the Tampa Bay Lightning.
According to Yahoo Sports, MacKinnon's contractual situation with the Avalanche may serve as a benchmark or leverage point in negotiations for Kucherov, who is seeking a new deal with Tampa Bay.
Both players are among the NHL's elite forwards, and their contract discussions are being closely watched across the league.
