Russia has been reinstated to the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Championship following a ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). The decision clears the way for the Russian national team to compete in the upcoming tournament, reversing a previous ban imposed due to the country's sporting sanctions.
The ruling comes after a legal challenge by the Russian Ice Hockey Federation. A file photo from the 2021 World Championship in Riga shows Russian players celebrating a victory over Sweden. Russian Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyarev, seen at a sports forum in Samara in November 2025, welcomed the decision as a step toward restoring Russia's place in international ice hockey.
