Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney sharply criticized an airplane banner that flew over Florida State's stadium calling for the firing of Seminoles coach Mike Norvell ahead of Clemson's victory over FSU on Saturday. Swinney described the display as "embarrassing" during his postgame remarks.
Swinney Defends Rival Coach
The banner, which appeared in the sky above Doak Campbell Stadium before the Atlantic Coast Conference matchup, demanded Norvell's dismissal. Swinney, whose Tigers secured the win, took issue with the public nature of the criticism directed at his counterpart. The Clemson coach has faced Norvell's Florida State teams multiple times since Norvell's hiring in 2020.
The incident highlights the intense scrutiny college football coaches face in the current era, where fan frustration often manifests in public displays. Norvell's Seminoles entered the game with a disappointing record, fueling speculation about his future in Tallahassee.
