Virginia Tech opened its 2026-27 men's basketball season with a decisive victory over Coppin State on Wednesday night, with guard Ben Hammond pacing the Hokies in the blowout win.
Hammond, wearing No. 3 for Virginia Tech, led the team in the season opener as the Hokies dominated from the start. The game marked the first contest of the new campaign for both programs.
The Hokies' strong start sets an early tone for the season under the lights of their home arena. Virginia Tech will look to build on this performance as they continue their non-conference schedule in the coming weeks.
