FC Barcelona have confirmed that midfielder Rodri Hernández has suffered a tear in the right femoral biceps and will be sidelined for approximately four weeks. The injury occurred during the UEFA Champions League match against Aston Villa, where Rodri was substituted at halftime after experiencing muscular discomfort. Medical tests on Wednesday confirmed the extent of the damage.

The Spanish international will miss Sunday's LaLiga clash against Atlético de Madrid, as well as subsequent league fixtures against Villarreal, Deportivo, and Celta de Vigo, plus the Champions League group-stage game against Sabah. There is optimism he could return for the European meeting with Manchester City. Under coach Hansi Flick, Rodri has been a regular starter, featuring in eight of ten LaLiga matches (697 minutes) and three of four Champions League outings (248 minutes).

The absence also impacts the Spain national team, as manager Luis de la Fuente will be without Rodri for the upcoming UEFA Nations League matches against the Czech Republic and England. He is considered a pivotal figure for both club and country, dictating tempo and organizing play from midfield.

Flick must now reshuffle his midfield options. Pedri remains the primary anchor, with Marc Bernal, Frenkie de Jong, and Gavi as alternatives. Bernal replaced Rodri against Aston Villa and has started three LaLiga games this season, while De Jong has recently returned from injury and featured in a defensive role against Alavés. Gavi, though limited in minutes lately, offers intensity and a different profile.

Barcelona's injury list continues to grow: Eric García, Xavi Espart, Dani Olmo, Jules Koundé, Andreas Christensen, and Roony Bardghji are also sidelined. However, García, Koundé, and Christensen are nearing full fitness and could be available for the Atlético de Madrid match.
