The Rugby Football League (RFL) has endorsed a £30 million funding request made by former England and Great Britain international Jon Wilkin to Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham.
Wilkin, who earned 10 caps for England between 2004 and 2011 and six appearances for Great Britain in 2006 and 2007, has called for increased investment in the sport's infrastructure and development pathways.
The RFL's backing highlights the governing body's commitment to securing long-term financial support for rugby league in the region.
