The Mané Garrincha Stadium in Brasília will be equipped with semi-automated offside cameras, the Confederação Brasileira de Futebol (CBF) announced on Thursday. The Brazilian football confederation confirmed the technological upgrade for the national stadium, which has hosted major matches including 2014 FIFA World Cup fixtures and Copa América games.
The semi-automated offside system uses dedicated cameras to track player positions and provide faster, more accurate offside decisions through video assistant referee (VAR) operations. The implementation aligns with FIFA's broader rollout of the technology across top-tier competitions worldwide.
No specific timeline for installation or debut matches was disclosed in the CBF statement. The Mané Garrincha, officially named Estádio Nacional Mané Garrincha, has a capacity of over 72,000 and serves as a primary venue for Brazil national team matches and major domestic finals.
