Legendary NFL coach Bill Belichick has been named as one of five coaching candidates for the Pro Football Hall of Fame's upcoming class, the Associated Press reported Thursday.
The selection marks another appearance for Belichick among the finalists for football's highest individual honor. The six-time Super Bowl winning coach, who spent 24 seasons with the New England Patriots, remains one of the most decorated figures in NFL history.
The Hall of Fame's selection committee will meet to determine the final inductees, with the announcement typically made during the NFL Honors ceremony ahead of the Super Bowl. Belichick's candidacy reflects his unprecedented sustained success, including 333 career regular-season victories and 31 playoff wins — both NFL records for a head coach.
The other four coaching candidates were not disclosed in the initial announcement. Final voting results are expected in the coming months.
