Los Angeles Lakers guard Bronny James has been assigned to the NBA G League as the franchise seeks to increase his playing time and accelerate his development. The move comes amid a limited role for the rookie on the Lakers' main roster through the early part of the 2026-27 season.
James, the 20-year-old son of Lakers superstar LeBron James, was selected 55th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft. He has appeared sparingly for Los Angeles, logging minimal minutes behind an established backcourt rotation. The G League assignment allows him to gain consistent run with the South Bay Lakers, Los Angeles' developmental affiliate.
The Lakers have emphasized a patient approach with James, viewing the G League as a valuable environment for him to refine his game against professional competition. He remains on a two-way contract and can be recalled to the NBA roster at any point.
