The NFL's inaugural regular-season game in Paris has sparked controversy after lyrics to the French national anthem were reportedly changed for the event. The matchup, scheduled for 2026, marks the league's first foray into the French capital as part of its international series expansion.
Details on the specific lyrical alterations and the nature of the backlash remain limited. The decision to modify "La Marseillaise" has drawn scrutiny from French cultural observers and sports fans alike, raising questions about the balance between sporting spectacle and national symbols.
The game represents a significant milestone in the NFL's global growth strategy, following previous international games in London, Munich, and Mexico City. League officials have not yet issued a formal response to the criticism.
