Utah Defense and Aerospace Industry Partners with Team USA to Develop Faster Bobsled for 2026 Winter Olympics

Utah's defense and aerospace sector is collaborating with USA Bobsled to engineer a more competitive sled ahead of the 2026 Winter Olympics in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy. The partnership leverages advanced materials and aerodynamic expertise from the state's high-tech manufacturing base to give American athletes a technological edge on the ice.

The initiative comes as Team USA prepares for the four-man bobsled competition, where athletes Frankie del Luca, Boone Niederhofer, Bryan Sosoo, and Joshua Williamson will represent the United States. The 2026 Games are scheduled for February in the Italian Dolomites, with the bobsled events set to take place on the historic Cortina track.

By applying defense-grade engineering — including computational fluid dynamics, lightweight composites, and precision manufacturing — the Utah-based consortium aims to reduce drag and improve stability at speeds exceeding 130 km/h. The project reflects a growing trend of cross-sector innovation in Olympic sports, where marginal gains in equipment design can determine podium finishes.
