Kentucky Judge Denies NCAA Emergency Stay, Keeping Athletes Eligible Under New Five-for-Five Rule
World Sports · 00:10:42 - Sunday, 1 November 2026

A Kentucky judge has denied an NCAA emergency stay, allowing several athletes from the 2022 high school class to remain eligible under the association's new five-for-five eligibility model.

Among those affected are Missouri forward Mark Mitchell, Louisville guard Seth Trimble, and Texas Tech quarterback Thomas Castellanos. Mitchell and Trimble are set to begin the 2026-27 basketball season with their respective programs, while Castellanos is currently playing football for Texas Tech.

The ruling permits these athletes to take advantage of the NCAA's updated eligibility framework, which grants five years of competition over five years of enrollment. The decision came on October 30, 2026.
