The St. Louis Cardinals must decide whether to exercise a $6 million club option on right-handed reliever Ryne Stanek, with the deadline approaching. Stanek, who joined the Cardinals during the 2026 season, posted a 3.42 ERA across 45 appearances, striking out 52 batters in 47.1 innings while allowing 38 hits and 22 walks.
The 33-year-old veteran has spent parts of eight seasons in the majors with Tampa Bay, Houston, Miami, Seattle, and St. Louis. His option decision represents one of the first roster moves for the Cardinals' front office this offseason as they evaluate bullpen construction for 2027.
If declined, Stanek would become a free agent. The Cardinals could also negotiate a restructured deal at a lower guaranteed salary. General manager John Mozeliak has emphasized financial flexibility heading into the winter, though the club values proven late-inning options.
