The Los Angeles Lakers have been sold for $12.5 billion to investor Josh Kushner, with the deal finalized at the Florida home of Dodgers co-owner Mark Walter on October 31, 2026.
The transaction represents one of the largest sports franchise sales in history, valuing the iconic NBA franchise at a record price. Kushner, a venture capitalist and brother of Jared Kushner, becomes the new controlling owner of the 17-time NBA champions.
Mark Walter, who leads the ownership group of the Los Angeles Dodgers, hosted the closing at his Florida residence. The Lakers have been under the Buss family ownership since 1979 when Jerry Buss purchased the team.
Financial details beyond the headline price were not immediately disclosed. The sale includes the franchise, its brand, and associated media rights. NBA owners must still approve the transfer, though that is typically a formality for pre-negotiated deals.
