The Dallas Cowboys fell to 0-5 all-time against the Arizona Cardinals at AT&T Stadium after a 33-30 overtime defeat in Week 8. The loss marked the first time this century the Cowboys lost a home game after leading by 14 points in the fourth quarter, having won their previous 69 such games.
Former Cowboys quarterback Ben DiNucci described the performance as "absolutely embarrassing" on CBS Sports HQ, saying "They stink" and questioning the team's effort week to week. DiNucci, who served as Dallas' backup in 2020 and 2021, said the same old pattern in Dallas is not cutting it and called for a change in the locker room culture.
The Cardinals rallied behind backup quarterback Gardner Minshew, who replaced Jacoby Brissett, and running back Tyler Allgeier. Dallas only reached overtime after a missed extra point by Arizona on its final touchdown in regulation. The Cowboys now face the Indianapolis Colts, Tennessee Titans, and Philadelphia Eagles in three of their next four games, with a Week 14 bye as their next scheduled break.
Owner Jerry Jones indicated that firing head coach Brian Schottenheimer mid-season is not under consideration. DiNucci suggested veteran leaders such as Dak Prescott, Quinnen Williams, and CeeDee Lamb need to take control and address the distractions that come with playing for the Cowboys, including facility tours on off days that he believes may affect focus.
