A participant in the TCS New York City Marathon plans to push his cousin, who has cerebral palsy, the full 26.2-mile course in a racing wheelchair. The event is scheduled for November 2026.
The runner will navigate the five-borough course while propelling the specialized racing chair, allowing his cousin to experience the marathon from start to finish. The pair's effort highlights the inclusive spirit of the world's largest marathon, which welcomes athletes of all abilities each year.
Race organizers have accommodated wheelchair participants for decades, with dedicated divisions and course access. This year's field includes numerous adaptive athletes competing alongside the general field of over 50,000 runners.
